Worry Box Technique

Worry Box Technique

Judith de Gea Lancho

The worry box is an exercise that helps you manage anxiety and worries, externalizing your negative thoughts so they do not affect you as much. It is a symbolic way of "storing" your worries, giving you control over when and how to deal with them.

Instructions

  1. Write all your worries or negative thoughts on a piece of paper.

  2. Place the paper in a box, which can be real or imaginary.

  3. Close the box and decide on a specific time of day to open it and reflect on what you have written.

  4. The rest of the day, every time a worry comes to mind, remind yourself that it is "stored" in the box and that you will address it later.

Benefits

This exercise helps you reduce daily anxiety and maintain your focus on the present, by limiting the time and energy you dedicate to worries.
